As the sole legislated authority for treating cancer in Manitoba, all cancer patients come through our doors providing general population access for researchers.

State-of-the-art platforms at your service
The Institute maintains investment, support, and upgrades for a curated series of five major resource and technology platforms for use by member scientists. Our platforms include The Manitoba Tumor Bank, Next-Gen Sequencing, Cancer Modelling & Imaging Core, Manitoba Cancer Informatics, and Single Cell Technologies. These platforms are interrelated and have been selected to support cancer research priorities in Manitoba. The platforms also facilitate scientific investigation in multidisciplinary research studies.

Integrating fundamental and translational investigation with clinical and health services research
Owing to the complexities of the disease and emerging technologies, breakthroughs in cancer research require collaboration across disciplines. This begins with fundamental laboratory science where hypotheses, informed by real-world clinical challenges, are formed and tested. Translational research bridges fundamental science and studies in patient populations. These hypotheses move on to evaluation in clinical applications. And finally, the ever-increasing demand to improve healthcare efficiencies and patient experience drives health services research. Enhancing multidisciplinary research is a core strategy at the Institute.

New trial looks at reducing bleeding risk in cancer patients while also developing novel research methods
A new Investigator-Initiated Clinical Trial (IICT) led by Primary Investigator, Dr. Brett Houston, called the MYELO-CAN TXA trial, aims to see whether Tranexamic Acid (TXA) can help prevent bleeding in patients with certain blood cancers such as acute leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome.
