Research Summary
The treatment of cancer has improved dramatically over the last few decades. Unfortunately, these lifesaving treatments can also cause adverse drug reactions. In fact, the majority of cancer patients experience adverse drug reactions as a result of chemotherapeutic treatments. As individual genetics is a key determinant of adverse drug reactions, our lab uses large-scale genomic and computational analyses to uncover the genetics underlying the adverse effects of cancer treatments.
Goals
The main goals of our lab are to use genomic information to predict and prevent the occurrence of adverse drug reactions.
Research Biography
Dr. Drögemöller joined the University of Manitoba as an Assistant Professor in 2020 and is Canada Research Chair in Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine. Dr. Drögemöller received her PhD from Stellenbosch University in South Africa in 2013. She then went on to continue her training in pharmacogenomics and precision medicine at the University of British Columbia, where she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Canadian Pharmacogenomics Network for Drug Safety.
