I aim to conduct patient-oriented, practice-changing research that will improve patient outcomes, maximize health and reduce suffering among those with blood disorders and blood cancers

Research Summary

Dr Houston’s research focuses on innovative trial designs, blood conservation and supportive care strategies to optimize care and improve outcomes for patients affected with blood disorders such as MDS and acute leukemia.

Goals

  1. Routinely integrate research into clinical care to develop a learning health system
  2. Conduct patient-prioritized research to improve patient outcomes and quality of life
  3. Use novel trial methods to expand access to clinical trials

Research Biography

Dr. Houston completed medical school at the University of Manitoba (2016), followed by Internal Medicine residency at the University of Toronto (2018). She subsequently completed her Hematology fellowship (2018) and the Clinician Investigator Program (2020) at the University of Manitoba. She completed a PhD in clinical epidemiology and clinical trials (2022) at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Houston is a Hematologist and Clinician Investigator at the University of Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba. She is also a Scientist at the CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute.
